The Sports Leaders Programme was introduced at Eastlea Community School to equip our students  with employability skills for life improving motivation, self-esteem,  communication, team work and confidence.

Sports Leadership allows our students to practice and build their skills in order to give and become more to improve their employability. The students are regularly involved in the planning and leading on events whilst targeting personal areas of development. Students are supported in assessing their performance, to both celebrate and reset targets.

Events that the sports leaders are involved in include:

  • Primary Athletics competitions: sports leaders deliver athletics events to primary students and record results. The leaders analyse these result and award Bronze, Silver and Gold medals to primary students.

  • Primary Mini Olympics: primary schools are split into different groups so the groups consist of students from all participating schools. Each group represents a different country. They have to work together as a team to complete all activities. Winners receive medals to take home.

  • Primary Schools Sports Days: sports leaders plan and deliver activities as part of the primary sports days. They are given time and opportunities to reflect on their leadership and set targets for future events.

  • Primary Tag Rugby competitions: sports leaders coach and ref primary tag rugby games. This is a great opportunity to develop refereeing skills and confidence.

  • Year 5 Mission X: space project for year 5 students. The sports leaders take the visiting primary around to different space related activities and some support staff in delivering these activities.

  • Working with the School Sport Partnership to deliver competitions in a variety of sports and the annual School Games Festival.
