PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT VISION
As a PE team, we aim to create an enjoyable and engaging environment where all pupils experience success through a range of sports. Our wide and varied curriculum provides the opportunity for pupils to learn and develop a range of skills which are necessary for sport and everyday life.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION KEY STAGE 3
Pupils at Eastlea are encouraged to lead a healthy, active lifestyle through sport, starting in year 7. Students rotate through a range of sports including Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Rugby, Football, Netball, Table Tennis and Fitness improving their knowledge and physical performance. Pupils are also encouraged to continue their engagement beyond lessons by participating in sports clubs on offer every lunch time and afterschool. Our school has a good reputation for school sport and we compete to a high level across the borough, London and nationally!
PHYSICAL EDUCATION KEY STAGE 4
At Key Stage 4; in addition to core PE, students are able to opt into BTEC Sport where they have the opportunity to be assessed in sport over 3 years. Pupils will complete 4 units, each worth 25% of the final grade. Practical sport; Sports leadership; Training for Personal fitness and Fitness for Sport (exam).
ENRICHMENT & EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION
At Eastlea, we believe all pupils should have opportunity to progress beyond the classroom, which is why we offer an extensive and engaging extra-curricular timetable all year round. During the winter months you can get involved in football, rugby, basketball, table tennis, badminton, handball and netball. Whilst during the summer we add in trampolining, rounders, cricket and athletics. Extra-curricular timetables are displayed around the school, most noticeably in the Benton complex, near our main sports hall.

However, even injured students will have a role in the lesson, for example as a coach or referee, and so they should still bring their kit to school.
Encourage your son/daughter to attend an extra-curricular PE club regularly and to be part of an Eastlea Community School team or squad.
Long nails, chewing gum and jewellery are not permitted for participation in practical PE lessons as these are a health and safety risks. Please ensure your child adheres to these expectations.
